What are destination charges on an import?

Short answer

Destination charges are the costs at the arrival end, typically terminal handling, documentation or delivery order fees, port and security charges, customs clearance and haulage. On CIF or CFR terms they're usually paid by the buyer even though the supplier paid the freight.

The detail

This is where unexpected costs often appear, especially when suppliers choose the carrier.

Buying on FOB or FCA terms lets you, or your forwarder, control and see these costs upfront.
